Tonight, as I was watching the images of joy on television (Sarkozy's supporters partying on place de la concorde), I decided to take a short walk in order to satisfy my addiction for cigarettes. As soon as I reached the corner of my street my eyes started to feel itchy..the explanation was just around the corner: The police were making massive use of tear gas to try to contain riots on the place de la Bastille.
This very tense climate seemed totally otherworldly to me..even if I experienced the incidents of Gare du Nord & CPE a while ago..my Belgian soul can't still understand the trauma of the French society and its frequent violence outbursts.
